Request for Expressions of Interest
Description:
notice_summary_english: The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), on behalf of Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) invites qualified interested firms to submit Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in the upcoming solicitation for the implementation of technical assistance for the Assessment of Green Hydrogen Potential and Development of a National Strategy. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on behalf of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) requires the services of an institution to deliver the technical assistance as approved by National Designated Entity from Guinea. The objective of this Technical Assistance is to assess the green hydrogen production potential and identify its use sectors and export potential; develop a national green hydrogen strategy aligned with WASCAL's regional strategy; develop a pilot project and develop a financing proposal, and build the capacity of key stakeholders. Guinea faces major structural challenges in its energy sector. Despite several recent hydropower projects, the rate of access to electricity remains low, especially in rural areas, where it does not exceed 2%. The network remains concentrated around Conakry and the central corridor, leaving large territories without sufficient coverage. Dependence on imported fossil fuels to supplement domestic production makes the system vulnerable to external shocks, while energy needs are rising sharply as a result of population growth, urbanization and the booming mining sector. In this context, the development of new clean and reliable energy sources has become a national priority. Green hydrogen, produced from renewable electricity and water, represents a strategic option to diversify the energy mix, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the country's energy security. To this end, Guinea has significant potential in renewable resources (solar, hydroelectricity, biomass) and water availability
