The Municipality Of Heraklion Has A Licensed Small Animal (Dog) Shelter Which Can Accommodate Up To 80 Dogs, While It Also Has A Licensed Municipal Veterinary Clinic At The Kennel. In The Framework Of The Responsibilities Of The Municipalities For The Management Of Stray Animals In Accordance With Article 10 Par. 1 Of The Law N.4830/2021 "New Framework For The Well-Being Of Companion Animals - Program "Argos" And Other Provisions", The Municipalities Are Obliged To Have An Integrated Operational Program For The Management Of Stray Animals, In Accordance With Par. 2 Of Article 3, Which Includes At Least Twelve-Month Basis: (A) Collection, (B) Provision Of Veterinary Care, (C) Electronic Marking And Registration In The Emzs (National Register Of Companion Animals), (D) Sterilization, (E) Finding A Sponsor And (F) Their Adoption.
Taking Into Account The Above, The Municipality Of Heraklion Intends To Proceed With The Supply Of Veterinary Material, Consumables And Dog Food For The Year 2026 Instead Of The Amount Of 127,699.73 Euros Including Vat, Which Varies At 6%, 13% And 24% Depending On The Species, In Order To Cover The Annual Needs Of The Municipal Kennel And The Municipal Veterinary Clinic.
